The Faculty of Management
Science, Suan Sunandha Rajabhat
University, is moving forward in driving
the university's role in local
development by organizing a workshop on
social engineering for community
engagement. This project, under the
"Developing Entrepreneurial
Competencies for Local Development
through Soft Skills (Social
Engineering)" program for the 2026
fiscal year, was led by Assistant
Professor Dr. Pongsawit Supanont, Deputy
Dean for Student Affairs, along with
staff from the Student Affairs Division.
The aim is to enhance the capabilities
of students and staff by providing them
with essential skills for working with
communities, analyzing problems, needs,
and potential of local areas, and
applying this knowledge to design
concrete development approaches that
align with the community's
context.
The activity took place in Bang
Sakae community, Bang Khon Thi
Subdistrict, Bang Khon Thi District,
Samut Songkhram Province. It provided a
real-world learning experience for
students and staff through the process
of "Learning from the Field –
Understanding the Community –
Analyzing Problems – Collaborative
Design – Implementation." Key
activities included workshops, fieldwork
and data collection, surveying the
community's context and potential,
and knowledge exchange and engagement
with local residents.
The core of the program is to
apply the Social Engineering process and
Soft Skills to develop students'
ability to work creatively with others,
possess strong communication skills, and
analytical thinking. Teamwork,
problem-solving, relationship building,
and conflict management are key skills
learned, along with the ability to
identify opportunities and potential
within the community, leading to the
development of approaches that meet the
specific needs of the
area.
Furthermore, students
integrated knowledge in management,
entrepreneurship, and marketing into
fieldwork processes to collaboratively
identify opportunities to enhance
community potential in terms of
resources, local wisdom, products,
services, and social
capital—fundamental pillars for
creating value and increasing community
development capabilities.
This fieldwork was
therefore not merely about bringing
classroom knowledge to the community,
but a collaborative learning process
between "university –
students – community,"
allowing all sectors to exchange
experiences, analyze situations, and
jointly find development approaches
appropriate to the local context, with
the community at the center.
The
Faculty of Management Sciences aims for
this project to contribute to creating
"new generation social
engineers" who possess not only
academic knowledge and professional
skills but also understand society, have
a sense of public service, can work with
communities, and transform knowledge
into a powerful force for real
change.
The
implementation of this project reflects
the Faculty of Management Sciences'
mission to "build people, build
knowledge, create opportunities, and
create value for local
communities," while striving to
empower communities to develop
themselves, build upon their potential,
and grow stronger.
From the classroom
to the community. From knowledge to
action; from soft skills to the power of
"social engineers" for
sustainable local
development.
